BreakNeck MTB
Ride harder. Ride Smarter. Stay in one peice
Ride harder. Ride Smarter. Stay in one peice
I broke my neck, didn’t break my spirit.
I wanted a place for riders like me, older, wiser (mostly), still hungry for adventure.
If my stories, crashes, lessons and rare moments of skill help you ride longer, brilliant.
If they make you laugh, even better.
I’m Russell, a rider in his 50’s who still loves a proper day out on the trails.
After nearly paralysing myself in Wales in 2023, I realised life was too short not to keep exploring — but also too precious to ride like a complete lunatic.
BreakNeck MTB is for those of us who still enjoy a bit of risk, but also want to get home without my wife asking awkward questions.

If you're over 40, love your bike, and bounce less than you used to, you're in the right place.
In 2023, a crash in Wales came closer to finishing me off than I’d ever admit to Mrs P.
A hangman’s fracture, a teardrop fracture, and a few nervous consultants later, I found myself flat on my back wondering whether I’d ever ride again.
Recovery wasn’t quick.
It wasn’t glamorous.
But it gave me something I’d somehow lost along the way — perspective.
I realised I didn’t want to ride like a hero.
I wanted to ride for as many years as I’ve got left.
That crash is why BreakNeck MTB exists.
Not to glorify injuries, but to remind us that adventure matters, risk is real, and getting home in one piece is the ultimate goal.
If my journey helps another older rider stay strong, stay sharp, and stay on the trails… then something good came out of a pretty rough day in Wales.
